The husband of a Tamarac grandmother who shot her estranged son-in-law during a visit to pick up his son is also facing charges for lying to detectives about how his wife got the gun, authorities said Friday.
Sheldon Hepner, 68, was charged with accessory after the fact in the Dec. 8 shooting, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
Wife Cheryl Hepner, 66, is facing an attempted first-degree murder charge in the shooting, which happened outside her home in the 8600 block of Northwest 57th Court.
Authorities say 39-year-old Salvatore Miglino was at the Hepner home to pick up his 3-year-old son when the mother-in-law opened fire, according to the BSO.
Miglino was expecting a confrontation, so he hit the record button on his iPhone, according to the BSO.
"I can’t believe you did that, I can’t believe you shot me," Miglino screams in the iPhone footage, as Hepner curses at him.
Cheryl Hepner later lied to detectives, claiming Miglino had pulled the gun on her, according to the BSO. Miglino was hospitalized and later released.
Authorities say Sheldon Hepner also lied, telling detectives he hasn't had a gun in his house in years. But police tracked the gun to Cheryl Hepner's brother, who admitted to giving it to the grandparents.
Cheryl and Sheldon Hepner remained behind bars Friday. It was unknown whether they had attorneys.
