Grass Fire Impacts Electricity for Hundreds of Residents: FPL

Authorities responded to the scene of a grass fire in southwest Miami-Dade on Monday afternoon.

It was reported around 4 p.m. at Southwest 162nd Avenue and Bird Road.

According to Florida Power & Light, more than 2,600 customers were without power. They said fire crews asked them to turn the grid off while they tackled the fire.

It was a precaution due to a power line in the area catching fire.

FPL said power was expected to be restored by 6:30 p.m.

Florida Forestry said 30 acres of land were impacted and as of 8 p.m. Monday, 100 percent of the fire had been contained.

Authorities believe the fire was caused by lightning.
