Group Holding ‘Miami Cannabis Walk' in Wynwood Friday

5K hopes to raise awareness and money for medicinal pot

Call it the walk for weed in Wynwood.

Supporters of medical marijuana are gathering in Wynwood Friday for the "Miami Cannabis Walk," a 5K that hopes to raise awareness and money for medicinal pot.

The event will take place at 2250 Northwest 2nd Avenue and will of course begin at 4:20 p.m. The walk will begin at 7:10 p.m.

Once the walk concludes there will be a concert, with local DJs performing and guest speakers, plus food and beverage vendors. Tickets are $10.

"At the Walk we will spread the knowledge on the medical uses of cannabis, cannabinoids and it's health benefits. We will have Doctors, Lawyers, Patients and Others speaking at the walk to inform the public on the uses of Cannabis," the walk website says.

Florida voters approved a medical marijuana amendment last year by 71 percent. The bill still bans smoking the marijuana, despite amendment supporters saying it is written into the language, but a lawsuit filed earlier this month is challenging that part of the law.

Medical marijuana products can be sold as edibles, vaping, oils, sprays or tinctures. Patients may receive an order for three 70-day supplies before having to visit a doctor again to get re-examined.
