Another South Florida municipality is considering giving out fines instead of criminal charges to people caught with pot.
The City of Hallandale Beach is considering following the footsteps of Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami Beach.
Both county and Miami Beach commissioners have given preliminary approval to a law that gives officers the option to hand out fines for marijuana possession, rather than sending offenders straight to jail.
Hallandale Beach officials believe the move would relieve the taxpayer burden of jailing small-time drug offenders.
City Commissioners have agreed to a formal vote on the matter at a future meeting.
