Udonis Haslem Arrested for Marijuana Possession

UD and a passenger in his car were both arrested after being pulled over for speeding

He's the heart and soul of the Miami Heat -- and, apparently, the greens: fan favorite Udonis Haslem was arrested Sunday afternoon for possession of marijuana during a traffic stop, according to the FHP.

Guess somebody had to make up for Michael Beasley's departure, though police documents note Haslem was not under the influence at the time of his arrest.

They also indicate Antwain Fleming, a passenger in Haslem's car, told the highway patrol the marijuana was his.

But Haslem, a 30-year-old forward, is charged with possessing more than 20 grams of marijuana, a third-degree felony carrying maximum penalties of a $5,000 fine and up to five years in prison.

He was released on bond shortly after 10 p.m., and left jail without talking to reporters.

Haslem has also been charged with speeding and illegal window tinting on the 2008 Mercedes he was driving east on the Gratigny Parkway when a state trooper clocked him going 78 in a 60 miles per hour zone just after 3 p.m.

The highway patrol says the officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana, searched the vehicle, and had cause to arrest both Haslem and Fleming.

Fleming was charged with possessing less than 20 grams of marijuana, a first-degree misdemeanor that carries sentences up to a $1,000 fine and one year in prison.

If Miami has learned one thing from the aforementioned and unfortunate Beasley's time in Miami, it's that (proven) marijuana use is frowned upon by the NBA. If Haslem eventually pleads guilty or no contest, or is convicted of using or possessing, he will be required to enter the league's substance abuse program.

The current Broward resident is especially beloved among Heat fans, having won a state title with Miami Senior High and being one of only two players -- the other, Dwyane Wade -- who have spent their entire NBA careers with the Heat.

He reportedly turned down millions to re-sign with Miami this summer.
