5 Arrested, Charged in Attempted Robbery at Miramar Hotel Thursday

Five people were arrested after police responded to an attempted robbery at a Miramar hotel Thursday afternoon.

Officers say the five suspects - including one juvenile - traveled to the Hampton Inn off Red Road and the Turnpike to confront two victims about a past due debt. The group lured one victim to the parking lot before allegedly pulling out a gun and threatening her.

After chasing her back into the hotel, the victim attempted to return to her room and warn the other victim. The five suspects followed her, reportedly trying to break into the room while still holding weapons. The male victim called 911 and officers responded.

The five suspects - one juvenile, 20-year-old Hasani Shelley, 19-year-olds Richard Williams Jr. and Jabari Shelley along with 18-year-old Nailah Grace - have all been charged with kidnapping and armed robbery.

Two firearms were found in the case - one inside a vehicle driven by Williams and another that was thrown into the bushes outside of the hotel.
