Hialeah Man Accused of Throwing Firebomb at Car

A Hialeah man is behind bars for allegedly throwing a firebomb at another man's vehicle in a dispute over a used car.

Rolando Torresvega, 53, faces multiple charges including second-degree arson, possessing a firebomb and attempted armed robbery, an arrest report stated.

Approximately two weeks ago, Torresvega bought a used Mitsubishi SUV from the victim, but he wanted to exchange it because he was dissatisfied with it, the report said. The victim sold him another vehicle, but Torresvega returned to his home on Tuesday night complaning about it and demanded a refund.

The man told him the sale was final. Angry, Torresvega allegedly told him,"You will remember me because I'm going to burn all your cars and your house." He returned a half-hour later and threw a firebomb under the victim's parked vehicle, police said. Torresvega was about to light a second one but ran away when someone drove by.

The victim came out and discovered a small fire under his car and extinguished it with a garden hose. He told police his family was inside the residence and if he hadn't seen the fire on time, it would have spread.

Torresvega was identified through surveilance video. In bond court Friday, Miami-Dade judge Renatha Francis called his alleged actions "shocking" and increased his bond, totaling it to $35,000.

The judge also ordered Torresvega to stay away from the victim and his property. Attorney information was not available.
