A Hialeah soldier was killed after his unit was ambushed by enemy forces in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Thursday.
Sgt. 1st Class Ofren Arrechaga, 28, was among three soldiers killed during a fire fight in the Konar province on March 29.
Arrechaga was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
He joined the military in 2001 and his surviving family lives in Tennessee.
