High Five: Agencies Seize 6,800 Pot Plants

Potheads statewide will have to find a new way to get high this weekend

A statewide law enforcement sweep targeting indoor marijuana grow houses in Florida has netted more than 6,800 pot plants and resulted in the arrests of 142 people.

Acting Miami U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Sloman said the operation Friday involved all of Florida's 67 counties. Sloman says the high-potency plants seized are worth an estimated $30.7 million on the street. More than 120 indoor grow houses were dismantled, 39 of those in Miami-Dade County.

In addition to the pot plants, authorities confiscated 45 firearms and more than $176,000 in cash. Fifteen children living in homes used to grow marijuana were placed in the custody of the Department of Children & Families.
