Teen Punched During High School Basketball Game Speaks

The 17-year-old says she has been suffering from headaches ever since the incident.

A 17-year-old South Florida high school basketball player is speaking out after she was allegedly punched during a post game scuffle on Wednesday night.

She says she was caught in a fight once the game ended and ended up being punched by an adult man.

"I was getting jumped, and when I got loose, I hit one of the girls that was jumping me," the high school senior said. "I didn't even see the guy; he grabbed me by my hair and cocked his arm all the way back and he punched me."

She and her grandmother, Marlese Adams, are upset the man is still out there.

"If they don't arrest this guy or do something, then maybe this can happen to another child," Adams said.

The 17-year-old says she has been suffering from headaches ever since the incident.

The Broward County Public Schools released a statement Monday night saying the incident is being investigated:

"To clarify, this was not a Miramar High School basketball game. This game was between travel basketball teams, unrelated to the school. The District is currently investigating the incident and those involved. One individual, Bennett Wyche, who is employed as a security specialist with the District, has been reassigned to a position away from students. The District continues to work with law enforcement regarding its ongoing investigation."
