A Broward County high school is mourning the loss of a newly hired assistant football coach who was killed by a hit and run driver this weekend along a busy roadway.

Investigators say 27-year-old Carlo “C.J.” Ullysse Jr. was struck and killed Sunday morning shortly after 6 a.m. along the northbound lanes of I-95 at Oakland Park Boulevard.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Ullysse was in one of the lanes when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle which fled the scene without stopping to offer help.

Ullysse was recently hired as the defensive backs coach for Cypress Bay High School in Weston, where he graduated from in 2009 before playing three seasons of college football at Indiana State. He also owned More Fire Performance and Fitness, according to his Instagram page.

Officials have not released any information on the car involved in the crash and are asking anyone with information to notify the FHP.
