History Is Made As All-Female Hurricane Hunter Crew Flies Into Dorian

History was made Thursday as an all-female hurricane hunter crew from NOAA prepared for a Hurricane Dorian reconnaissance mission.

This is the first time an all-female crew went on a reconnaissance mission, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The crew, which consisted of three pilots, flew off from Lakeland Thursday afternoon.

A photo posted on the NOAA Aircraft Operations Center Twitter page showed Kristie Twining, Rebecca Waddington and Lindsey Norman getting ready to go inside Hurricane Dorian.

According to NOAA, "Hurricane Hunters are piloted by members of the NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps, one of the 7 uniformed services."
