Hit-and-Run Driver Strikes Pedestrian Near FIU Campus: FHP

A hit-and-run driver struck and injured a pedestrian near the Florida International University campus in southwest Miami-Dade early Monday.

Florida Highway Patrol deputies tell NBC 6 that the incident occurred just before 4:30 a.m. at Southwest Eighth Street and Southwest 109th Street directly across from the FIU campus.

The victim, identified as 20-year-old Adonis Torres, was struck in the westbound lanes of Southwest Eighth Street.

Witnesses say Torres appeared to ignore the pedestrian signal and may have been crossing the street from the campus heading to an apartment complex. The driver of the car had the green light, according to police at the scene.

Police say the car that fled the scene is described as a Silver Infinity M45 with partial tag X20.
