Hollywood Police Looking for Burglar Who Sexually Assaulted Person in Home

Same suspect may be linked to two previous burglaries in the same area

Hollywood police are searching for a suspect who sexually assaulted a person during a house burglary early Thursday.

The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. at a home in the area between Pembroke Road to the south and Washington Street to the north, and between the Federal Highway and Dixie Highway corridors.

Police said the suspect broke into the house, confronted the victim and demanded money, then sexually assaulted the victim before fleeing.

Officers responded and searched the area but couldn't find the suspect.

It's believed the suspect may be linked to two previous burglaries in the same area in the past couple months. Police said the suspect made threats of sexual assault in the previous burglaries.

"At this time we are canvassing the area, we have all resources available to the Hollywood Police Department, just flooding that area and hoping, hopefully we will catch this guy," Officer Christian Lata said.

Police described the suspect as a black male, believed to be in his 30s, between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 with an average build. He's believed to have a blue sweatshirt with the word "RUN" written across the front, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
