Homeless Man Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver in Pompano Beach: BSO

Authorities are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a homeless man in Pompano Beach Sunday night.

Broward Sheriff's Office officials said 55-year-old Joseph Duran was walking across the westbound lanes of East Atlantic Boulevard in the 900 block around 8:20 p.m. when he was struck by a pickup truck. Duran's body was thrown more than 40 feet from the point of impact, authorities said.

After the impact, the driver of the pickup slowed then accelerated away from the crash, officials said. Duran was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are searching for the driver and the truck, a black 2007 Ford F-150. The vehicle would have damage to the driver's side front end, on the headlight assembly, front bumper and possibly the hood.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
