Caught on Camera: Student Arrested After Chaos at Homestead Senior High School

A student was arrested as chaos broke out due to several fights Tuesday at a high school in southeast Miami-Dade.

Over 100 students were engaged in a "large-scale" fight at Homestead Senior High School, police said in an arrest report. Miami-Dade County Public Schools confirmed several fights occurred on campus that afternoon.

A female student was taken into custody after she resisted officers who tried to break up a fight she was having with another female student, the arrest report stated. Police used a stun gun to subdue her.

The student's name and age were redacted in the arrest report.

Several videos posted to social media show the mayhem on campus. One of them shows a massive crowd of students in a hallway area surrounding two students fighting while yelling, recording and stampeding through the halls in chaos.

In another video, officers are seen struggling with a female student, who is eventually put on the floor and handcuffed.

The student arrested will face charges of disrupting an educational institution and resisting an officer. Five other students will be disciplined by the school district.

"A safe and secure environment for our youth is a primary concern of the Miami-Dade Police Department," police said in a statement. "After responding to an emergency request for back-up from Miami-Dade Schools Police, the female in the video was being taken into custody by our officer for fighting ... Supervisory personnel are aware of the video and are reviewing the incident to ensure compliance with our policies and procedures."
