Arrest Made After Missing Man's Body Found in Car Trunk in Homestead

Justin Earnshaw, 38, charged with murder in killing of 39-year-old Jose Daniel Munoz, officials say

A man has been arrested on a murder charge after the body of a missing man was discovered in the trunk of a vehicle in the parking lot of a Walmart in Homestead, authorities said.

The discovery was made outside the store at 13600 Southwest 288th Street Thursday, Miami-Dade Police spokesman Chris Thomas said.

According to Thomas, a man called 911 around 11 a.m. saying he was following a white Honda that matched the description of a car belonging to his brother who had been reported missing in Monroe County two days earlier.

The brother followed the car to the Walmart where officers responded and took two men and a woman into custody, Thomas said. The officers soon noticed a strong odor coming from inside the car.

"They searched the vehicle and what they found was a covered up deceased body in the trunk of this vehicle," Thomas said. "The individuals were transported to the Miami-Dade Police Department Homicide Bureau for interview right now and the vehicle will be taken to medical examiner's office for proper processing."

Police said one of the people in the car, 38-year-old Justin Earnshaw, confessed to the murder, which happened in Miami-Dade. The other two people who were detained were released.

The victim was identified as 39-year-old Jose Daniel Munoz, of Key Largo.

Earnshaw was charged with second-degree murder, possession of cocaine, and giving a false name after his arrest. He was being held without bond Friday and attorney information wasn't available.
