A Homestead woman is in jail after she allegedly choked her 9-year-old daughter in their home.
Australia Webb, 31, faces charges of child abuse and felony battery after a witness reported hearing screaming coming from the living room of their apartment on Monday, court documents state.
When the witness entered the apartment, he saw Webb place the girl in a bear hug and allegedly reached for her neck in an attempt to choke her.
The physical altercation continued into the hallway, and the witness told detectives Webb, while standing behind the girl, began to choke her with both hands, the arrest form said. The victim told detectives she could not breathe for four to five seconds.
Webb told detectives she only spanked her child and did not choke her, but the victim and the witness said there was no spanking.
Webb is in jail on a $10,000 bond and the court has ordered her to stay away from her daughter.
