A husband and wife who police say are behind the $600,000 armed home invasion and theft of an Aston Martin sports car in Coral Gables have been arrested, authorities said Thursday.
Zuhdi Musa, 47, and Rosa Maria Musa, 45, were arrested late Wednesday night on charges of armed burglary with assault or battery and first-degree grand theft, Coral Gables Police said.
Both were being held without bond Thursday and it was unknown whether they have attorneys.
The home invasion happened around 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the home in the Gables Estates gated community in the 100 block of Arvida Parkway, police said.
Security cameras at the entrance to the community captured the suspects entering in a car they borrowed from a friend, according to an arrest affidavit.
"Mrs. Musa drove the vehicle into the Gables Estates and dropped off her husband and Mr. Musa entered the house through an unlocked door," Coral Gables Police Sgt. Dean Wellinghoff said. "He was wearing a mask, carrying a gun and waited inside the house and accosted the victim in the bathroom."
Police said the homeowner was alone when Zuhdi Musa walked in. He searched a bedroom before he found the homeowner in the billiard room, the affidavit said.
Zuhdi Musa bound the victim's hands and legs behind her back with zip ties and covered her mouth with masking tape, police said. He then took $4,000 from her purse as well as the necklace from around her neck and earrings from her ears, which were valued at $400,000, police said.
He also demanded the key to her car, a black 2011 Aston Martin Vantage worth about $200,000, the affidavit said. But when he went into her garage, he couldn't figure out how to start the pricey car, and had to go back inside and ask the victim how to start it before he fled the scene, the affidavit said.
The victim can be heard gasping in a 911 recording and telling the operator that she was in the garage.
She was shaken up but not physically harmed, police said. The car was found the next day in the area of Southwest 146th Lane and Southwest 126th Place, police said.
Police said their investigation revealed the home invasion wasn't a random act, and that Zuhdi and Rosa Musa were known to the victim. Zudhi Musa works for the victim's Medical Billing Company.
Authorities will be hold a news conference later Thursday to discuss the arrests.
