I-75 Reopens in Collier County After Heavy Smoke Caused Early Morning Closures

Motorists traveling along to and from Southwest Florida are dealing with smoky conditions due to several fires that have broken out in the area.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook shortly after 3 a.m. that a portion of I-75 between the toll booth in Broward County and the Collier County toll booth was closed due to hazardous conditions.

The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed to NBC 6 that the roadway is back open – while a portion of US 41 remains closed in Collier County with drivers being advised to take US 27 to State Road 80 as an alternate.

Officials say the fires are contained, but are advising drivers to be aware of the smoky conditions. Firefighters have been battling brush fires in southwest Florida since last week.
