A United flight attendant was injured when a plane was forced to brake suddenly to avoid a collision at Dulles International Airport Saturday morning. A Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority spokesperson said United Flight 379 to Orlando, FL, had pushed back from the terminal and started to taxi to the runway when the pilot made an abrupt stop to avoid a ground vehicle. A flight attendant who was standing was hurt during the stop. The spokesperson said the flight attendant was likely giving safety instructions when the stop occurred. The spokesperson said there was no collision with the ground vehicle and the flight returned to the gate. The flight attendant was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the ground vehicle was issued a notice of violation. He will be taken off airfield and go through retraining before being allowed to drive again.
If you drive on I-95 in South Florida your commute may soon be changing, as Miami-Dade express lanes will be expanding into Broward County.
Construction is set to begin Nov. 28 on the project, which will have two express lanes going in each direction from the Golden Glades interchange to Broward Boulevard.
Just like the current express lanes, there will be a toll that will fluctuate depending on the level of traffic.
It's been almost three years since the express lanes opened in Miami-Dade and the results have exceeded expectations, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
They say traffic moves 15 miles per hour faster during rush hour in the express lanes than in the regular lanes.
The latest project is scheduled to take three years to complete and cost $106 million, but FDOT officials say the short-term headaches will make for a faster commute in the long run.
