Miami-Dade County could become home to one of the country's largest immigrant detention centers.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials are considering an area south of Florida City for the new facility. It would house at least 1,800 foreign nationals facing deportation and cost between $100 million to $200 million to build.
The Krome detention center in west Miami-Dade currently houses around 500 detainees.
An ICE spokesman says a decision will be made within the next few months.
