‘I'm Hurting': Mother of Teen Killed in Liberty City Shooting

The two fatal shootings of South Florida teenagers this week is a double punch to the victims' families who really have little hope the people responsible will ever get caught.

Shakila Stewart, the mother of 17-year-old Maurice Harris, is speaking out for the first time since her son was killed.

"That's my message, please catch whoever is behind this, I'm hurting," Stewart said in an exclusive interview with NBC 6. "Why did you kill my family?"

Harris, a student at Miami Northwestern High School, was shot and killed earlier this week in Liberty City.

"He was a good kid. I mean, he was so happy, you started Northwestern just one week ago, wanted to be on the basketball team this week and his life was taken from him," Stewart said.

Two days later, another shooting and another life taken. And another student at Northwestern, Randall Robinson. Robinson, also 17, was shot and killed in Little Haiti.

Harris' mom said she's scared to go outside now. Three years ago her husband was also shot and killed during a home invasion.

"This is the second time, you know, both of them, oh God, the second time I can't even live like this," she said.

Police are working to solve both crimes. Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
