Inmate Returns to Work Release After Overnight Excursion

Shawn Washington came back the next morning

An inmate took a break from work release and came back the next morning, according to The South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Shawn Washington was reported missing by the West Palm Beach Community Correctional Center around 2 a.m. Friday when he did not return from the waste treatment plant in West Palm Beach where he had been working, authorities said.

He did not return until 8:30 a.m., authorities said. If an inmate has 14 months or less to serve and is on good behavior they are eligible for work release, the newspaper said.

Washington was serving three-and-a-half years for burglary and grand theft and was scheduled to be released in February.

Authorities say that he can now face up to five years in prison if he is convicted.
