Inmate Serving 40 Years Caught After Escaping in Miami-Dade

The Florida Department of Corrections released an escape notice for 37-year-old Jason Revis

An inmate serving a 40-year prison sentence on molestation charges briefly escaped in Miami-Dade Thursday morning, officials said.

The Florida Department of Corrections released an escape notice for 37-year-old Jason Revis after he went missing from his dorm.

Authorities began a "large scale search effort" and Revis was taken back into custody hours later, officials said.

He was found at a restaurant in Florida City. He now faces additional charges for the escape.

Revis is serving a 40-year sentence for lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim under 12, authorities said. He is four years into the prison term.

"I want to commend the effective collaboration of all staff involved to include FDC, federal, state and local law enforcement authorities for a swift resolution to this incident," Department of Corrections Secretary Mark Inch said in a statement. "Working together, they were able to quickly identify the escapee and initiate a large-scale manhunt, resulting in the quick and safe capture of the inmate."
