Investigation Into Toddler's Death Underway in Central Broward

Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the death of a toddler early Thursday morning near Fort Lauderdale.

A call was made to 911 around 2:45 a.m. from the 1100 block of Northwest 30th Terrace, due to a child who was unconscious and unresponsive.

Responding deputies quickly began trying to resuscitate the little girl. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported her to Plantation General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

According to family members, 2-year-old Za'mya Williams was asleep in bed when she was found unconscious.

An autopsy is underway to determine her cause of death.

BSO homicide detectives are investigating.

The Department of Children and Families said the family does not have a history with the organization:

We are deeply saddened to learn of this tragedy. The Broward Sheriff's Office Child Protective Investigations unit has opened a death investigation. There are no previous child abuse or neglect investigations involving this child.
