An investigation is underway after a police officer was shot in North Miami, police said Saturday.
The incident happened near Northeast 119th Street and West Dixie Highway.
Police said they received a call about a man walking with a bulletproof vest and a shotgun.
While police were engaging with the suspect, shots were fired. An officer was hurt while responding to the standoff.
Details of the incident were not immediately confirmed to NBC 6, but officials did confirm that an officer was shot.
The officer was taken to the hospital. He is expected to be okay. His identity has not yet been released.
The suspect, who has not yet been identified, died on the scene.
Witnesses told NBC 6 that before the shooting, officers forced everyone inside for safety. Minutes later, witnesses reported hearing dozens of gunshots.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating the officer-involved shooting.
