The judge overseeing the death penalty case against admitted Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School killer Nikolas Cruz on Wednesday ordered jury selection will begin on January 27, 2020.
Judge Elizabeth Scherer has been planning for a January 2020 trial date since last February, the one-year anniversary of the massacre that took 17 lives in Parkland.
On Wednesday she made it official, telling attorneys to have pretrial motions filed by Dec. 27.
She set aside two weeks, January 13-24, for hearings on those motions.
"Jury selection will commence on Monday January 27, 2020," the order stated.
