Key Largo Man Arrested for False 911 Report

Shane Earp, 40, called dispatchers on Thursday night saying he wasn't home, but that he got an anonymous call that his home was being burglarized, authorities said

A Key Largo man was arrested after he called 911 to falsely report a burglary at his home because he had broken up with his girlfriend and didn't want her to damage anything in the home.

Shane Earp, 40, called dispatchers on Thursday night saying he wasn't home, but that he got an anonymous call that his home was being burglarized, authorities said. When officers went to see, they found his girlfriend inside. Earp showed up shortly thereafter too.

He told authorities that he had broken up with her on Wednesday night and that she had been living with him, and had a right to be there even if he wasn't home.

Earp was charged with misuse of the 911 system and he was in jail $2,000.
