Key West declared a state of emergency over the novel coronavirus Sunday evening.
Officials say the declaration would allow the city to quickly respond to any public health emergency, which may include canceling large events.
On top of quicker response times, city officials say they will be able to use any funding that goes towards tackling COVID-19.
On Monday, officials announced that the Duval Loop would suspend operation beginning March 17.
As of Sunday, there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Monroe County.
