Kids Found Wandering Sunrise Parking Lot Alone After Mom Went to Store: Cops

A mother was arrested after police said her two young children were found wandering alone in Sunrise while she walked to a hardware store.

Rose Petit Homme, 27, was arrested Sunday on two counts of child neglect without great bodily harm after the children, ages 1 and 3, were were found by a passerby in a parking lot in the 2300 block of Northwest 72nd Avenue near Sunset Strip, according to a Sunrise Police arrest report.

The passerby brought the kids to a neighbor, who called police, the report said. When Petit Homme arrived home she explained that she had walked to Home Depot to get a tool to fix the sunroof on her car, the report said.

The report said the Home Depot is about 1.6 miles from her home. An officer estimated that the children were left unattended for at least an hour and a half, the report said.

Petit Homme told police she didn't take the kids with her because they were sleeping when she wanted to go to the store, the report said.

A judge ordered Petit Homme held on $1,000 bond during a court appearance Monday. Attorney information wasn't available.
