“KKK” Spray-Painted on Miami Gardens Homes

"It kind of hurts that it's still going on," said a student whose mailbox was vandalized.

The letters "KKK" and other hateful messages were found spray-painted on at least four separate Miami Gardens properties Wednesday, police say.

St. Thomas University student Javorn Bryant came out of his home to find "KKK" spray-painted across his mailbox. It was an unwelcome message for the student, who just moved to Miami Gardens two weeks ago.

"I am surprised that this happened in this neighborhood. I don't know what time that would have happened, because there is usually someone out here," Bryant said. "I hope it's a prank, honestly."

Miami Gardens police responded to calls of the "KKK" letters appearing at multiple locations, Bryant's home just one of them.

"It kind of hurts that it's still going on, but hopefully it's something that the cops can handle and they will be out of our hands," Bryant said.

"KKK" with the symbol of an eye appeared on one wooden fence, on another fence nearby and another home near Northwest 44th Avenue and 183rd Street. The "KKK" letters, along with profanity, were spray painted on one property.

One homeowner who didn't want his identity given said he's puzzled as to why anyone would do this to his house.

"It doesn't scare me, but it's just, why would people do it?" he said. "I don't bother anybody in the neighborhood — talk to my neighbors, and that's it. I stay in the house."

Police were out Wednesday speaking with homeowners who unfortunately were victims of the vandalism and looking into who may have done this.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
