Lauderhill Man Has Part of Hand Amputated After Fireworks Accident

A Lauderhill man had part of his hand amputated following an accident involving fireworks late Wednesday night.

Lauderhill Fire Rescue tweeted a photo of the scene near the 5400 block of Northwest 24th Court, but did not give additional details about what took place.

The victim was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in serious condition with LFR confirming he had part of his hand removed as a result.

The victim's grilfriend said the pair was walking down the street when he saw a firework and decided to light it, causing an immediate explosion that included burns to his chest and stomach.

"There was no time left, he was out of time," said Nancy Bedford. "All his hand and fingers, it's like he could work with his fingers but from the TNT and gunpowder it split it up...it's like he put his hand in a meat grinder."

In a seperate incident, Pompano Beach Fire Rescue took two men to the hospital following a fireworks accident off Northwest 9th Street. One victim suffered burns while the other lost a finger in the explosion.
