Lauderhill Pharmacy Pill Heist Caught on Camera: Police

Police released surveillance video of Monday's break-in on Thursday

Two men stole thousands of pills with a street value of over $100,000 from a Lauderhill pharmacy – and their break-in was caught on infrared camera, police said.

The burglars set their sights on the Executive Pharmacy in the medical building at 4300 North University Drive early Monday between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m.

"It appears as though they’re trying to jimmy the locks, so to speak,” said Lauderhill Police spokesman Lt. Mike Butkus.

He described the suspects as “very, very patient.” They were also methodical and determined, surveillance video shows.

They tried to work the lock – but when that didn’t succeed, they resorted to more extreme measures – a crowbar. The video shows the suspects trying to dismantle the lock, and piece by piece they peel away the door.

"Now he's got his arm reaching inside the door, and he's unlocking the door,” Butkus said.

Once the suspects gained entry, they rolled up the accordion window and stole about 5,300 various prescription pills worth more than $100,000, according to police.

The major heist is cause for alarm, police said.

"The dosage was taken, and they are now out on the street, that definitely poses a danger to our community as well as surrounding communities,” Butkus said.

Days after the burglary, it was business as usual at the pharmacy Thursday – though some additional safety measures were put in place.

Neighboring office managers like Jeff Davis are hoping those responsible are held accountable.

"We would like to see these people apprehended,” said Davis, of the Broward Surgery Center.

Police ask anyone with information on the case to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
