Leyritz Sentenced to One Year Probation

The former baseball player involved in a fatal accident was also fined $500

Jim Leyritz will spend the next year on probation and will be required to pay a $500 fine, a judge ruled Thursday.

Last week Leyritz was found not guilty for DUI manslaughter. Three years ago the former major leaguer had been celebrating hi 44th birthday when, on the way home in his SUV, he hit Fredia Ann Veitch's car.

Prosecutors claimed Leyritz's blood-alcohol level was .14 percent three hours after the crash, above Florida's .08 limit (Veitch's was 0.18, authorities said), and that he had run a red light. However prosecutor's couldn't prove Leyritz had run a red light.

In a radio interview Tuesday, Leyritz said he now wants to concentrate on being a good dad to his three children.

"Hopefully in the future," he said, "I'll be able to make a difference."
