Local Events for 50th Anniversary of MLK Assassination

Here are several events occurring in South Florida related to the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Wednesday:

MLK Remembrance Day

A tribute ceremony, held by the Black Affairs Advisory Board under the Office of Community Advocacy, will take place on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the lobby of the Stephen P. Clark Center, located at 111 NW 1st Street in Miami.

Community leaders will reflect on King's religious legacy, and civil rights activists will speak about current affairs in the United States.

Ride Out for MLK

The Roots Collective and South Florida leaders will commemorate King's life and legacy, as well as the lives lost to violence with a symbolic funeral procession.

Participants will meet at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center located at 2650 Sistrunk Blvd in Fort Lauderdale at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Other events will be held at the Tacolcy Center, located at 6161 NW 9th Ave in Miami, and the Athalie Range Park, located at 525 NW 62nd St. in Miami.

MLK March Against Violence

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the Unity March Against Gun Violence, held in memory for people lost to senseless crime. It will be led by Miami City Commission Chairman Keon Hardemon, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, clergy members and community leaders. This procession will include students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
