Florida Law Requires Local Police to Comply with ICE

Police hold detained undocumented immigrants for an extra 48 hours

The controversial Florida law that forbids sanctuary cities goes into effect Tuesday.

The measure - signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in June of this year - requires local police to hold undocumented immigrants that have been detained for an extra 48 hours, allowing ICE to arrive and transport them to detention centers.

The Miami Herald reports that a Federal judge in Miami temporarily blocked a portion of the law on Monday. U.S. District Judge Beth Bloom ruled that local police cannot transport undocumented immigrants across state lines at the request of the federal government.

The ruling can be appealed.
