Lollipop Licking Bank Fraudster On the Loose: Police

Broward County Sheriff's Office detectives are looking for a man whom they say helped himself to more than just a handful of free lollipops from a bank.

According to deputies, the man strolled into the American National Bank branch at 4301 North Federal Highway in Oakland Park last month and chatted jovially with the teller, grabbed a handful of free lollipops, and walked away with more than $1,300 after handing her a phony check and drivers license.

While the crime happened in February, the victims did not discover it until March and reported the incident to BSO.

The victims, Bolender Family Enterprises of Oakland Park, found that one of their legitimate business checks written to a locksmith for $100 actually showed up deducted from the business account for $1,315.

Detectives watched surveillance footage from the bank on that day, and showed the man who appears to be in his late 70's handing the check to a teller.

That check had been made payable to an Erick Johnson of Chicago. The man produced an Illinois drivers license with that name.

Detectives say that name and license were likely fraudulent.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
