Magic City Bicycle Collective Targeted by Thieves

Ongoing issues with theft are generating uncertainty with Miami's Magic City Bicycle Collective.

The nonprofit moved to Omni Park in February and in nearly a year since the move its trailer holding expensive items has been broken into four times.

Last week, thieves took tools, three bikes and a generator – a loss of about $4,000, according to Magic City Bicycle Collective Vice President Ruben Van Hooidonk.

"It is extremely frustrating especially because this is a nonprofit run by volunteers funded by volunteers and donors to help the community out. Like we are trying to make Miami a bit of a better place," Hooidonk said.

The nonprofit has reported the crimes to police but so far no items have been recovered, meaning the volunteers have to buy replacements.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
