Majority Of Florida Voters Support ‘Stand Your Ground' Law: Poll

The majority of Florida voters also said they were "somewhat satisfied" with the state

Following the February shooting of Trayvon Martin, the majority of registered Florida voters support the 'Stand Your Ground' law, according to poll results released Thursday by Quinnipiac University.

About 56 percent supported the law, while 35 percent opposed it. Results also showed the law is more favored by Republican voters than Democrats, men than women, and whites than blacks, according to the poll.

"Despite the controversy, public opinion seems to be solidly behind 'Stand Your Ground' and slightly against stricter gun control," said Peter A. Brown, the assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

The poll, which also asked voters about their satisfaction with “the way things are going in Florida today,” found the majority of people were "somewhat satisfied."

The university surveyed 1,722 voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.
