Man Accused of Cannibalizing Victim Caught in North Florida

Tyree Smith is accused of killing a man with a hatchet and ate part of him, police said.

Police in north Florida have arrested a man accused of killing a man in Connecticut and eating some of his remains.

Tyree Smith, 34, arrived at a relative’s Bridgeport house, covered in blood, and said he had used a hatchet and killed a man he said was homeless, then ate some of the man’s brain and his eye, according to a news release from police in Lynn Haven.

According to a warrant application posted by the Connecticut Post, Smith showed up at the house covered in blood in mid-December and victim's body was found on Jan. 20.

After making the alleged confession, Smith took a Greyhound bus to Lynn Haven and arrived on Jan. 23, police said. After arriving in Florida, he told family members he was staying with a female friend, but did not provide her name, police said.

The U.S. Marshals found Smith and took him into custody on Tuesday night.

Police said the woman Smith was staying with was unaware of the allegations and is cooperating with investigators.

The Connecticut Post reports that the victim was Angel "Tun Tun" Gonzalez.
