Man Accused of Pushing Girlfriend Off Balcony in Florida Keys

Charles Beneway, 26, was arrested Wednesday night on a charge of aggravated battery causing bodily harm

A Florida Keys man was arrested after authorities say he pushed his girlfriend off a 13-foot balcony during a domestic argument.

Charles Beneway, 26, was arrested Wednesday night on a charge of aggravated battery causing bodily harm, Monroe County Sheriff's Office officials said.

The incident happened at a home on Big Pine Key. The 22-year-old girlfriend was bleeding from her mouth and nose and was airlifted to Jackson South Hospital in Miami after she lost consciousness. She was released from the hospital early Thursday, officials said.

A neighbor said she witnessed Beneway tell his girlfriend he was going to kill her, then saw him push her off the balcony, officials said. Witnesses also said they heard the couple arguing all night, officials said.

As he was being taken to jail, Beneway spontaneously told a deputy he "has anger issues that needs to get in control," authorities said.

Beneway was being held without bond Thursday, jail records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
