Man Arrested After Pocket-Dialing 9-1-1 and Talking About Murder Plans: BSO

Police are looking for two more suspects involved in the shooting.

A Pompano Beach man is being held without bond on homicide charges after he pocket-dialed 9-1-1 while talking to someone about his murder plans, police said.

Scott Simon, 24, was arrested Tuesday for the fatal May 5th shooting that left southbound lanes of I-95 closed for three hours in Oakland Park, according to a news release from the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Simon can be heard on the recorded line saying he was going to follow 33-year-old victim Nicholas Romondo Walker home and kill him, police said. Minutes after the call, Walker was shot and killed while driving his car onto the highway.

Authorities do not believe that Simon was the shooter, but that he coordinated the killing after getting into an argument with Walker at a nearby Waffle House.

Walker's girlfriend of five years, Melissa Hibbard, said losing him has been heartbreaking for his two teen daughters and 11-year-old son.

"When you see someone one day and the next day someone tells you that they're gone. And then to find out the way that he went is really the most tragic part of it all," she said.

When deputies arrived on scene, Walker's silver Buick had crashed into a guard rail on I-95 near Commercial Boulevard. He had already died of gunshot wounds by the time authorities put out a fire that had started in the engine compartment.

Detectives are asking for the public's help in identifying two other suspects they believe were involved in the shooting. They are looking for two men who were in a black 2012 Buick GS in the early-morning hours of May 5.

One of them can be seen in the above surveillance video wearing a studded denim vest.

Whoever the two men are, Hibbard said she wants them to turn themselves in and know that they have taken away a loving father, son and boyfriend.

"We're here on pause and on stop, trying to figure out where do we put the pieces back together, after you've done this to us," Hibbard said.

Anyone that may have seen the two men is urged to call Det. Bryan Tutler at (954) 321-4281 or report anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 493-TIPS (8477) or online at www.browardcrimestoppers.org. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
