A 32-year-old Miami man was arrested for allegedly impersonating a police officer while he assaulted and stole from a Coral Gables woman earlier this month.

Surveillance video captured a man, believed to be Adam Gil, approach a female security guard near the intersection of Bird Road and Aurora Drive on July 3. The suspect claimed to be a law enforcement agent and then ordered the victim to turn around so he could pat her before exposing himself, according to Coral Gables police.

Detectives said the victim was able to escape after the suspect took something from her. The suspect fled the scene.

Gil was taken into custody after police received an anonymous tip reporting a man in Pinecrest who fit the suspect's description. Pinecrest police detained Gil until detectives from Coral Gables arrived and placed Gil under arrest.

He was charged with four counts, including armed robbery, impersonating an officer and indecent exposure.

Bond was set at $17,500 for all four charges. It's unknown if he's hired an attorney.

In court Thursday, prosecutors said he's had two arrests before, including one for indecent exposure in 2003. He was convicted of indecent exposure in 2012, prosecutors said.

The victim, who is two months pregnant, said she didn't believe the suspect was with the FBI but did what he said anyway because she was scared for her life.

"Yeah, I'm scared, I'm scared, I'm really scared," Nadia Philogene said.
