Man Arrested For Allegedly Raping, Impregnating 12-Year-Old in West Palm Beach

Police in West Palm Beach arrested a 28-year-old man after they say he raped and impregnated a 12-year-old girl in 2017.

The Palm Beach Post reported that Jorge Cobon-Juarez was charged last Friday with two counts including sexual assault on a minor and his being held without bond.

Cobon-Juarez claimed to be caring for the child, according to the paper but the native of Guatemala denied the claims that were made against him. DNA tests reportedly indicated that he was almost certainly the father of the victim’s child.

Children in the state of Florida who are 16 or 17 years of age can give consent to a person up to the age of 23, despite the legal age of consent being 18 years old by Florida Statutes.

Anyone over 24 years of age cannot receive legal consent from anyone under the age of 18.
