Man Arrested in 2013 Murder of Elderly Woman in Miami

Police have arrested a man in the 2013 killing of an elderly woman who was found stabbed to death in her Miami apartment.

Bryan Carlos Rodriguez, 32, was arrested Monday in the murder of 73-year old Elsa Dominguez, according to a Miami-Dade Police arrest report.

Rodriguez, charged with second-degree murder, appeared in bond court Tuesday, where he was ordered held without bond.

"I'm just thinking it should be first-degree murder," Miami-Dade Judge Mindy Glazer said.

Dominguez was killed in her own apartment on Fontainbleau Boulevard in March 2013. Her neighbor found her in a pool of blood in the bedroom, the handle of a kitchen knife stuck out from her neck. She had been stabbed to death.

Detectives say they found a broken glass at the crime scene. DNA from the glass matched the defendant, who was in federal prison in Georgia serving a sentence for credit card fraud.

Public defender Elliot Schnider said it was circumstantial evidence and Rodriguez denied being at the victim's Fontainebleau apartment. But according to the arrest warrant the victim's wallet and cell phone were missing. The cell phone's last signal was detected nearby at the defendant's parents' home. And he was the victim's nephew.

Rodriguez will stay in jail until his next court date, his arraignment, where he'll have the chance to admit or deny his guilt.
