Man Arrested in Mother's Murder: Miami-Dade Police

A 50-year-old man has been arrested in the stabbing death of his mother early Monday, Miami-Dade Police said.

Francis Roig is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 79-year-old Georgina Roig, police said. He was booked into jail Monday.

At his court appearance Tuesday, Roig was ordered held without bond. He was also appointed a public defender.

Police said Roig stabbed his mother multiple times in the chest at their home in the 13200 block of Southwest 53rd Street early Monday before fleeing the scene.

A witness reported seeing a woman covered in blood at the front door of the home and officers found the victim dead on the front porch.

Police issued an alert for Georgina's car, which was missing. It was spotted a short time later in the area of Southwest 24th Street and 79th Avenue and when officers tried to stop it, Roig refused to stop.

Roig got out of the car and tried to flee on foot but was taken into custody, police said. He admitted to stabbing his mother and said he was angry with her for continually telling him what to do and that he needed to get a job, police said.
