Man Arrested in Shooting of 12-Year-Old in Lauderdale Lakes

A man accused of shooting a 12-year-old boy while trying to shoot someone else at a Lauderdale Lakes apartment complex has been arrested, authorities said.

Jimmie Harrold Terry, 33, is facing aggravated battery and firing a weapon in public charges in Tuesday's shooting at the Sea Wind Lakes Apartments, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

According to an arrest report, two middle school students had been involved in a fight and a nearby park. Terry was told about the fight and went to the apartment complex, where he exchanged words with someone.

At one point, Terry pulled out a gun and fired a shot toward the person he'd exchanged words with, but missed and hit the boy, the report said. The boy, who was shot in the buttocks, was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Terry fled the scene on foot but was later taken into custody by a SWAT team. He denied having a firearm or firing a shot but two witnesses identified him as the shooter, the report said.

Terry was booked into jail where he was being held without bond Wednesday, records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
