Fort Lauderdale Police have arrested a man they said was caught on camera cutting the brake line of an electric scooter this weekend – and investigating if he is involved in nearly two dozen similar incidents in the area.

Officers arrested 59-year-old Randall Williams and charged him with a third-degree felony count of criminal mischief after a security system caught him allegedly tampering with a scooter Sunday near the 1200 block of East Broward Boulevard.

Police say they are investigating nearly 140 incidents since April, including 20 in the area where Williams was arrested, and have notified the vendor – who removed them from the area to avoid rider injury.

Anyone who has witnessed tampering of scooters in the city is asked to call 911.
