‘God Has the Last Say': One Dead, One Critical After Opa-locka Shooting

A busy Opa-locka intersection was shut down for nearly 7 hours as police investigated a shooting in which a man was killed and another was injured while inside a vehicle.

The shooting happened Thursday afternoon in the 14300 block of Northwest 27th Avenue near Ali Baba Avenue, Opa-locka Police officials said.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene while the other, who family said is a 21-year-old father, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, officials said. He is in critical condition and his family prays he will recover.

"I feel horrible because I never thought this day would happen, and I don’t want anything to happen to him. It’s sad for me," Teriana Elliot, the man's niece, said.

The car was riddled with bullets at the intersection, which was blocked off by police tape.

A witness who is a local business owner said he heard up to 12 shots from a high-caliber firearm.

"He's in critical condition, but like I said God has the last say in everything," another family member said.

The Miami-Dade Police Department, which is investigating the shooting, said it does not yet know of a motive or if more than one gunman was involved.
